The shift solenoid for the 2006 Honda Civic is located on the bottom of the transmission housing, near the oil pan. It is a small, cylindrical device with two electrical connectors.
Removal and Replacement:
1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the shift solenoid. Be sure to note the orientation of the connector before removing it, as it can only be reconnected one way.
2. Remove the two retaining screws that hold the shift solenoid in place. Be careful not to drop the screws into the transmission housing.
3. Pull the shift solenoid straight out of the transmission housing. Be careful not to damage the O-ring that seals the solenoid.
4. Inspect the O-ring for damage and replace it if necessary.
5. Reinsert the shift solenoid into the transmission housing and hand-tighten the retaining screws.
6. Reconnect the electrical connector to the shift solenoid.
Tips:
- When removing the electrical connector, be sure to use a plastic pry tool to avoid damaging the terminals.
- If you are replacing the shift solenoid, be sure to use an OEM replacement part. Aftermarket solenoids may not work properly.
- The O-ring on the shift solenoid is critical for preventing leaks. Be sure to inspect it for damage and replace it if necessary.
