If the radio is unlocked but a code is requested:
1. Press and hold the Preset button 1 or 6 (depending on the model) until the code entry display appears.
2. Enter the four-digit code using the preset buttons 1 to 4. Each press increases the number by 1.
3. Press the preset button 5 to accept the code.
4. Ensure you select the correct preset button for your model; otherwise, the radio will reject the code.
BMW E36 & E38:
If the radio is unlocked but still asks for the code:
1. Use a flathead screwdriver to pop open the glove compartment.
2. Pull the latch behind the glove compartment light switch to gain full access to the inside.
3. Locate a white sticker attached to the car body below the blower motor underneath a yellow warning sticker.
4. There will be four columns of four numbers each.
5. Enter these 16 numbers in your radio display using the preset buttons, in the order they are displayed on the sticker.
6. Press the preset button 5 to confirm the code.
7. If correct, the radio will function as normal. If incorrect, it may display an error message asking you to wait 10 minutes before trying again.
If code is never requested:
1. Remove the radio from the dash using a proper removal tool.
2. There will be a barcode sticker, usually on the bottom of the radio (under the unit when installed in the car).
3. On the sticker, there is a two-line code. Enter this code into the display by pressing the preset buttons according to the radio number.
4. Press preset 5 to confirm.
