1. Remove the distributor cap.
2. Insert a long screwdriver or other suitable tool into the spark plug hole of the #1 cylinder.
3. Slowly rotate the engine crankshaft until the piston is at top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke. This can be determined when the piston stops moving upward with the insertion of the tool, signifying it is at its furthest upwards point.
4. Once TDC is reached, align the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and the engine block. The timing marks should line up with each other, ensuring that the engine is correctly timed.
