- 8mm and 10mm wrenches
- Feeler gauge
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Flathead screwdriver
- Hammer
1. Remove the cylinder head cover.
- Use an 8mm wrench to loosen the four bolts that hold the cylinder head cover in place.
- Remove the bolts and the cylinder head cover.
2. Locate the valves.
- The intake valves are located on the left side of the cylinder head, and the exhaust valves are located on the right side.
3. Adjust the valves.
- Use a feeler gauge to measure the gap between the valve stem and the rocker arm.
- The gap should be between 0.004 and 0.006 inches (0.10 and 0.15mm) for the intake valves and 0.006 and 0.008 inches (0.15 and 0.20mm) for the exhaust valves.
- If the gap is too small, use a flathead screwdriver to pry up on the valve stem.
- If the gap is too large, use a hammer to tap the valve stem down.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all of the valves.
5. Replace the cylinder head cover.
- Place the cylinder head cover back on the cylinder head.
- Install the four bolts and tighten them with an 8mm wrench.
6. Start the engine and check the valve clearances.
- Let the engine run for a few minutes and then recheck the valve clearances.
- If the clearances are still within specifications, you are finished.
