- Safety goggles
- 12mm combination wrench
- 14mm socket wrench
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Chain lube (optional)
Instructions
Note: Before attempting to adjust the chain, make sure the engine is off and the vehicle is on level ground.
1. Locate the chain tension adjusters.
There are two chain tension adjusters on the Suzuki LT80, located on the left side of the rear axle.
2. Loosen the locknuts.
Use a 14mm socket wrench and loosen the two locknuts that hold the chain tension adjusters in place.
3. Turn the adjusters to tighten the chain.
Use a flat-head screwdriver to turn the adjusters clockwise to tighten the chain.
Note: The chain should be tight enough to not sag at all when the rear tire is off the ground. However, it should not be so tight that it binds when you turn the tire by hand.
4. Retighten the locknuts.
Once the chain is at the desired tension, use a 14mm socket wrench and retighten the two locknuts.
5. Check the chain tension again.
Ride the vehicle and check the chain for proper tension. Make any necessary adjustments.
6. Apply chain lube (optional)
To extend the life of the chain, apply a chain lube. Use a brush or a cloth to apply the lube evenly to the entire length of the chain.
