Can an adult drive a riding lawn mow on the road in Ohio?

In Ohio, it is generally illegal for an adult to drive a riding lawn mower on the road. According to Ohio Revised Code (ORC) Section 4511.11, a vehicle is defined as "every device in, upon, or by which any person or property is or may be transported or drawn upon a highway, except devices moved by human power or used exclusively upon stationary rails or tracks." Riding lawn mowers are not considered vehicles under ORC Section 4511.11, and therefore cannot be legally operated on the road.

However, there are a few exceptions to this law. One exception is if the riding lawn mower is being used to maintain a public roadside, in which case it may be operated on the road as long as it is being operated by a person who is at least 18 years old and has a valid driver's license. Another exception is if the riding lawn mower is being used to transport agricultural equipment or supplies, in which case it may be operated on the road as long as it is being operated by a person who is at least 16 years old and has a valid driver's license.

If you are caught driving a riding lawn mower on the road in Ohio and you do not fall under one of the exceptions listed above, you may be ticketed for violating ORC Section 4511.11. The penalties for violating this law include a fine of up to $100 and jail time of up to 30 days.
