Why does the car still shake after replacing tires?

A car shaking after a tire replacement can have several causes, even if the tires themselves are new and properly installed. Here are some possibilities:

* Wheel balance: This is the most common culprit. Even with new tires, the wheels might not be properly balanced. An imbalance creates vibrations, especially at higher speeds. This needs to be checked and corrected with wheel weights.

* Wheel alignment: Misaligned wheels can cause shaking, pulling to one side, and uneven tire wear. This is independent of the tires themselves. An alignment check and adjustment are necessary.

* Tire pressure: Incorrect tire pressure can lead to vibrations. Make sure the tires are inflated to the manufacturer's recommended pressure (found in your owner's manual or on a sticker inside the driver's side doorjamb).

* Damaged wheels: Bent or damaged wheels will cause shaking, regardless of the tires. Inspect the wheels for bends, cracks, or other damage.

* Suspension issues: Problems with shocks, struts, ball joints, tie rod ends, or other suspension components can cause vibrations that are felt even with new tires. This is more likely to be a persistent issue, rather than one that suddenly appeared after a tire change.

* Brake rotor or caliper issues: Warped brake rotors or a sticking brake caliper can cause pulsating vibrations, especially when braking.

* Driveshaft problems: Problems with the driveshaft (particularly U-joints) can cause vibrations, especially at certain speeds.

* Incorrect tire installation: While less likely with a professional, it's possible the tires were mounted incorrectly or the lug nuts weren't tightened properly. This could lead to vibrations or even wheel detachment.

What to do:

1. Return to the tire shop: The first step is to go back to where you had the tires replaced. They should be able to diagnose and fix the problem, especially if it's related to balancing or installation.

2. Get a wheel balance and alignment check: Even if you didn't get these done with the tire change, they are crucial for proper handling and to eliminate vibrations.

3. Have a mechanic inspect your suspension and braking system: If the problem persists after addressing balance and alignment, a more thorough inspection by a qualified mechanic is necessary.

Don't ignore the shaking. Continuing to drive with a vibration can lead to further damage to your car and potentially dangerous driving conditions.
