* Park the vehicle: Ensure your truck is parked on a level surface with the engine off and the parking brake engaged.
* Locate the wiper arm release: This is usually a small tab or lever located on the wiper arm itself, close to where it connects to the wiper arm shaft. It might be hidden underneath a plastic cover or difficult to see. Carefully inspect the connection point.
2. Removing the Wiper Arm:
* Lift the wiper arm: Raise the wiper arm away from the windshield. You'll likely need to exert a bit of force.
* Locate and release the wiper arm: Look for the release tab or lever. Once found, press, push, or pull it as needed to unlock the wiper arm from the shaft. Sometimes it's a simple push and sometimes you need to lift/rotate/press a particular combination of things at once.
* Remove the wiper arm: Once the release mechanism is activated, gently but firmly pull the wiper arm straight away from the wiper arm shaft. It should come off relatively easily. If it's stuck, don't force it; re-inspect for the release mechanism. A little bit of spray lubricant (WD-40 or similar) *might* help if it's really stuck, but only if you can't find the release.
3. Replacing the Wiper Blade (After Removing the Arm):
* Detach the old wiper blade: Most blades simply hook onto the wiper arm. There's usually a clip or lever that needs to be squeezed or pressed to detach the blade. Refer to the instructions provided with your new wiper blades.
* Attach the new wiper blade: Attach the new blade following the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Reinstalling the Wiper Arm:
* Align the wiper arm: Make sure the wiper arm is properly aligned with the wiper arm shaft.
* Push the wiper arm onto the shaft: Push the wiper arm onto the shaft until it clicks into place. You might need to apply some pressure. There is usually a "click" indicating the arm is correctly locked.
Important Considerations:
* Stubborn wiper arms: If the wiper arm is exceptionally stubborn, consider using a wiper arm puller tool. These tools are readily available at auto parts stores and can help remove the arm without damaging it.
* Take pictures: Before you start, take pictures of the wiper arm connection so you remember how everything goes back together.
* Don't force it: If you're having trouble, stop and re-examine the mechanism. Forcing it could damage the wiper arm, the shaft, or the windshield.
* Consult your owner's manual: Your owner's manual should contain specific instructions for removing and installing your wiper arms.
