* The embossed markings and/or coolant passages MUST align correctly with the engine block and cylinder heads. The head gasket will have either raised lettering/numbers, or different patterns of holes or cutouts that correspond to features on the engine. These markings, and the overall shape of the gasket, will indicate proper alignment.
* Consult a repair manual: A shop manual specific to your year and model Chevy 350 is essential. It will have diagrams showing the correct orientation of the head gasket. Improper installation will lead to leaks and potential engine damage.
Don't rely on intuition. Use the markings on the gasket itself and a reliable repair manual.
