Three Signs Your Vehicle Needs an Engine Rebuild

Some automotive trouble is minor; other automotive trouble can be devastating. Depending on the problem, an engine rebuild may be the only solution to get your vehicle up and running again. Many people opt for the engine rebuild instead of buying a new car because their vehicle is valuable to them. Meadows Automotive can rebuild your vehicle’s engine. Here are three signs it might need this service.

Thick Vehicle Exhaust

One of the first signs you have serious trouble brewing underneath the hood is excessive and thick vehicle exhaust. You should never see your vehicle’s exhaust unless you drive a diesel or you notice the condensation exiting your tailpipe on a cold morning. If your car, truck, or SUV is spewing exhaust worse than a semi-truck, look at it closely. If the smoke is bluish, your engine is burning oil. Coolant leaking in the engine will produce white exhaust. Black exhaust indicates your vehicle is burning gas.

Loud Engine Knocks

You never want to play knock, knock, who’s there with your car, truck, or SUV’s engine. If you can hear your engine knock as you pick up speed and then the knocking sound softens as you slow down, well, we hate to tell you this but your engine bearings have likely worn out. Engine bearings hold moving engine parts – the parts rest on them. If they wear down, your engine parts will make a knocking sound, especially as you pick up speed. The worn bearings can also cause total engine failure.

Engine Performance Issues

We’ll need to inspect your engine to determine exactly why its performance is suffering, but in some cases, the problem could be severe enough that you’ll need an engine rebuild. For example, if you have a cracked exhaust manifold, you’ll not only lose engine performance but your motor will overheat. This will require some rebuilding to fix the problem. Engine performance can also be affected by something less expensive, such as a clogged fuel filter, so let us take a look at your engine to diagnose the problem.
