How do you bleed the brakes on a 1989 F150?

How to Bleed the Brakes on a 1989 F150

1. Gather your materials. You will need:

* A brake fluid bleeder wrench

* A clear hose that fits over the bleeder screw

* A container to catch the old brake fluid

* New brake fluid

* A friend or helper to assist you

2. Prepare the vehicle. Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the vehicle to cool down if it has been running.

3. Locate the bleeder screws. The bleeder screws are located on the brake calipers. There is one bleeder screw for each caliper.

4. Attach the hose to the bleeder screw. Place the end of the hose over the bleeder screw and tighten it until it is snug.

5. Place the container under the hose. Position the container so that it is below the end of the hose.

6. Have your helper press the brake pedal. Your helper should press the brake pedal down slowly and steadily.

7. Open the bleeder screw. Use the brake fluid bleeder wrench to turn the bleeder screw counterclockwise until it is open.

8. Watch for air bubbles. As your helper presses the brake pedal, you will see old brake fluid and air bubbles coming out of the hose. Continue to bleed the brakes until you see only new brake fluid coming out of the hose.

9. Close the bleeder screw. Once you see only new brake fluid coming out of the hose, close the bleeder screw by turning it clockwise until it is snug.

10. Repeat steps 6-9 for each caliper.

11. Top off the brake fluid reservoir. Once you have bled all of the brakes, top off the brake fluid reservoir with new brake fluid.

Tips:

* Make sure that you use the correct brake fluid for your vehicle. The type of brake fluid required is specified in your vehicle's owner's manual.

* Be careful not to overfill the brake fluid reservoir. If the reservoir is overfilled, it can cause the brakes to malfunction.

* If you have any questions about how to bleed the brakes on your vehicle, consult a qualified mechanic.
