How do you replace a fuel pump on 2002 Chrysler sebring?

Replacing a fuel pump on a 2002 Chrysler Sebring is not as difficult as you may think. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to replace the fuel pump:

1. Gather the necessary tools:

- Floor jack

- Jack stands

- Phillips head screwdriver

- Flathead screwdriver

- Bungee cord

- 10mm socket

- 13mm socket

- 15mm socket

- Fuel line pliers

- Safety glasses

- Gloves

2. Safety Precautions:

- Make sure the engine is turned off and allow the vehicle to cool down before starting any work.

3. Relieve fuel system pressure:

- Locate the Schrader valve on the fuel injector rail of your 02 Sebring

- Press down on the Schrader valve to relieve any fuel pressure.

4. Disconnect the fuel lines:

- Gently pull the fuel line off of the Schrader Valve connector.

- Use fuel line pliers if needed.

5. Bungee cords:

- Run a bungee cord through the disconnected fuel line and secure the line and the fuel connector, this will help to keep gasoline from spilling.

6. Jack the vehicle:

- Loosen the lugnuts of the two wheels that are situated beneath the fuel tank area.

- Use the floor jack to raise the side of the vehicle until it’s about 18-24 inches from the ground. Use jack stands to make sure the car is safe to work under once it’s lifted.

7. Locate the fuel tank area:

- The fuel tank is located beneath your vehicle, look for a metal plate that covers this section of the underside of the car.

8. Open the fuel tank:

- Use a 10mm socket to loosen and remove the nuts holding the fuel tank cover.

- Then, use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry the cover open.

9. Disconnect the fuel lines:

- Follow steps 4 and 5 until you have disconnected all of the fuel lines.

10. Disconnect the electrical connectors:

- Use a Phillips head screwdriver to disconnect the wiring harness electrical connector from the fuel pump assembly.

11. Remove the fuel pump assembly:

- Use a 15mm socket to remove the bolts that hold the fuel pump assembly in place. This will allow the fuel pump assembly to drop down from the vehicle.

12. Install the new fuel pump:

- Take your new fuel pump and position it in the designated place in the tank and replace the bolts you previously loosened.

13. Reconnect the fuel lines and electrical connectors:

- Follow the previous steps in reverse order.

14. Lower your vehicle:

- Once everything is reconnected and secure, you can lower your vehicle and reattach the wheels.

15. Test the fuel pump.

- Before you start the vehicle, turn the ignition key to the "ON" position but don't start the car. This will allow the fuel pump to pressurize the fuel line. You should hear the fuel pump running for a few seconds.

16. Start the vehicle.

- Try to start the vehicle. If it starts and runs smoothly, your new fuel pump is installed correctly and working properly.

17. Test for leaks.

- Visually inspect the fuel line connections and the fuel pump assembly for any leaks.

You have successfully replaced the fuel pump on your 2002 Chrysler Sebring. Be sure to recycle the old fuel pump and clean up any spills.
