* A 0.002-inch feeler gauge
* A flat-blade screwdriver
* A 13mm wrench
* A 17mm wrench
Here are the steps on how to adjust the valves:
1. Start by removing the oil cap. This will help to relieve any pressure that may have built up in the valve covers.
2. Locate the valve covers on the top of the engine. There are two valve covers, one on each side of the engine.
3. Remove the valve covers by unscrewing the four 13mm bolts that hold them in place.
4. Once the valve covers are removed, you will see the valves. There are eight valves in total, four on each side of the engine.
5. The valves are adjusted by turning the adjusting screws that are located on the side of each valve. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to turn the adjusting screws.
6. To adjust a valve, first loosen the locknut that is located on the side of the adjusting screw. Then, turn the adjusting screw until the feeler gauge can just barely slide between the valve stem and the rocker arm.
7. Once the valve is adjusted, tighten the locknut.
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for all of the valves.
9. Once all of the valves are adjusted, replace the valve covers and oil cap.
Note: It is important to adjust the valves on a regular basis to keep the engine running smoothly. The recommended interval for adjusting the valves on a 1969 Volkswagen Beetle is every 6,000 miles.
