Note: Make sure the parking brake is off before you begin this process.
1. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheel that you will be working on, but don't remove them completely.
2. Jack up the car and remove the rear wheel.
3. Locate the brake caliper. It is the metal housing that contains the brake pads and piston.
4. Remove the two bolts that hold the caliper in place.
5. Using the C-clamp or brake caliper piston tool, slowly turn the piston clockwise until it is fully retracted into the caliper.
6. Be sure to keep the brake fluid reservoir topped off as you retract the piston.
7. Once the piston is retracted, you can remove the old brake pads and install new ones.
8. Reinstall the caliper and the wheel, and then lower the car.
9. Test the brakes to make sure they are working properly.
Please note that if the piston is stuck and does not retract easily, you may need to use a penetrating oil or lubricant to help free it up.
