1. Park your Prius in a well-lit area and turn off the engine.
2. Open the trunk of your Prius.
3. Locate the two plastic screws that hold the license plate light housing in place. They are located on either side of the housing, near the bottom.
4. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to loosen the two screws until they come out.
5. Gently pry the license plate light housing out of the trunk lid.
6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the light bulb socket by pressing on the release tab and pulling it straight out.
7. Twist the old light bulb counterclockwise to remove it from the socket.
8. Insert the new light bulb into the socket and turn it clockwise until it is secure.
9. Reconnect the electrical connector to the light bulb socket.
10. Press the license plate light housing back into the trunk lid and insert the two plastic screws. Tighten the screws until they are snug.
11. Close the trunk of your Prius.
That is how you replace the license plate light on a 2005 Prius!
