1. Park the Civic in a safe location. Turn on the hazard lights and set the parking brake.
2. Open the trunk.
3. Locate the tail light assembly. It is located in the rear of the trunk, on the side that is not working.
4. Remove the two bolts that hold the tail light assembly in place. Use a Phillips head screwdriver or socket wrench to remove these bolts.
5. Pull out the old tail light assembly. Be careful not to drop it.
6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the old tail light assembly.
7. Inspect the new tail light assembly. Make sure that the lens is not cracked or damaged, and then plug it into the electrical connector.
8. Place the new tail light assembly into the opening in the trunk. Carefully insert it until it is seated against the body of the car.
9. Re-insert the two bolts that you removed in step 4. Tighten these bolts until they are snug.
10. Close the trunk.
11. Test the tail lights. Turn on the headlights and hazard lights to make sure that the tail lights are working properly.
If you are not comfortable performing this repair yourself, you can take your car to a mechanic who will be able to fix the tail lights for you.
