How do you change the oil filter on a 1997 Toyota Avalon?

Here are the steps on how to change the oil filter on a 1997 Toyota Avalon:

Materials Needed:

• New oil filter (check your owner's manual for the correct size)

• Oil drain pan

• Funnel

• Wrench

• Rags

• Safety glasses

Instructions:

1. Park your Avalon on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.

2. Locate the oil drain plug. It is usually located on the bottom of the oil pan.

3. Place the oil drain pan underneath the drain plug.

4. Use the wrench to loosen the drain plug. Be careful, as the oil may be hot. Allow all of the oil to drain into the pan.

5. Replace the drain plug and tighten it securely.

6. Locate the oil filter. It is usually located near the top of the engine.

7. Place the oil drain pan underneath the oil filter.

8. Use the wrench to loosen the oil filter. Be careful, as the oil may spill.

9. Remove the old oil filter and discard it properly.

10. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.

11. Screw on the new oil filter until it is snug. Do not over-tighten the oil filter.

12. Remove the oil drain pan.

13. Use the funnel to add new oil to the engine. The amount of oil required will be indicated in your owner's manual.

14. Check the oil level using the dipstick. The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.

15. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.

16. Check for any leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the oil filter or drain plug until the leak stops.

Tips:

- Make sure to use the correct oil filter for your Avalon. The wrong oil filter can cause engine damage.

- If you are not comfortable changing your own oil filter, you can take your Avalon to a mechanic.

- Be sure to recycle your old oil and oil filter.
