1. Safety Precautions:
- Park the car on a level surface, apply the parking brake, and chock the wheels to prevent it from rolling.
- Use proper safety gear, such as gloves and safety glasses.
- If the car has been recently driven, allow the brakes and wheel hub to cool down to avoid burns.
2. Remove the Wheel:
- Loosen the lug nuts of the affected wheel using a lug wrench.
- Raise the vehicle using a jack and place a stable jack stand under the car for support.
- Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
3. Remove the Brake Caliper:
- Locate the brake caliper on the backside of the wheel hub.
- Remove the bolts holding the brake caliper in place and set it aside without disconnecting the brake line.
4. Remove the Rotor:
- If present, remove the hubcap or dust cover from the wheel hub.
- Unscrew the center nut that secures the rotor to the hub.
- Pry off the rotor using a pry bar or a flathead screwdriver. Be careful not to damage the rotor or hub.
5. Access the Wheel Bearing:
- Remove the grease cap from the wheel bearing assembly.
- Inspect the grease for any signs of contamination or wear.
6. Remove the Wheel Bearing:
- Use a punch and hammer to drive out the cotter pin that holds the axle nut in place.
- Remove the axle nut using a deep socket and a breaker bar.
- Pull out the wheel bearing assembly from the hub.
7. Inspect the Hub and Bearing:
- Inspect the wheel bearing and the hub surface for any damage or excessive wear. Replace any damaged components if necessary.
8. Install New Bearing:
- Slide the new wheel bearing assembly into the hub.
- Tighten the axle nut until the bearing has no play but is not overtightened.
- Insert a new cotter pin to secure the axle nut.
9. Install the Rotor and Caliper:
- Reinstall the brake rotor onto the hub and secure it with the center nut.
- Reattach the brake caliper using the bolts you removed earlier.
10. Reinstall the Wheel:
- Place the wheel back onto the hub and secure it with the lug nuts.
- Lower the vehicle and remove the jack stands.
- Tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to ensure even seating.
11. Test the Brakes:
- After the wheel is installed, gently apply the brakes and test the vehicle for any unusual sounds or vibrations.
Remember to follow the specific instructions provided in the Daewoo Lanos service manual or consult with a qualified mechanic if you are unsure about any of the steps. Also, ensure that you obtain suitable replacement parts for the wheel bearing assembly.
