Instructions:
Note: Before starting the replacement process, make sure the vehicle is parked on a level surface, the parking brake is engaged, and the engine is turned off. Also, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent any electrical accidents.
1. Remove the Dashboard Trim:
- Use a pry bar or flathead screwdriver to carefully pry up and remove any trim pieces or panels around the dashboard, such as the instrument cluster bezel, radio bezel, etc.
- Be careful not to break any clips or tabs while removing the trim pieces.
2. Disconnect Electrical Connectors:
- Locate and disconnect any electrical connectors attached to the dashboard, including wiring for the instrument cluster, switches, and HVAC controls.
- Label or take pictures of the connectors for easy reference when reconnecting them later.
3. Remove Dashboard Bolts:
- Use a 5.5 mm hex key or socket and ratchet to remove the bolts holding the dashboard in place.
- There might be bolts located under the steering column, behind the glove box, and at various points across the dashboard. Remove all the bolts holding the dashboard in place.
4. Pry Up and Remove Dashboard:
- While supporting the dashboard with one hand, gently pry it up from its mounting points using a pry bar or flathead screwdriver.
- Continue prying up and removing the dashboard, disconnecting any remaining electrical connectors or vacuum lines as necessary.
- Be cautious when removing the dashboard to prevent damaging it or any surrounding components.
5. Sand and Prep the Surface:
- Use sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges or imperfections on the surface where the new dashboard will be installed.
- Clean the area thoroughly to remove any dust or debris.
- If necessary, apply primer according to the manufacturer's instructions to ensure better paint adhesion.
6. Install the Replacement Dashboard:
- Gently place the replacement dashboard into position, making sure it aligns correctly with the mounting points.
- Connect any remaining electrical connectors or vacuum lines.
- Secure the dashboard using the replacement dashboard bolts. Tighten the bolts evenly and securely.
7. Reattach Dashboard Trim:
- Reattach the dashboard trim pieces and panels you removed earlier.
- Make sure all the clips and tabs engage securely.
8. Reconnect the Battery:
- Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
Your warped dashboard should now be replaced with the new one. Test all the electrical components, switches, and HVAC controls to ensure they function properly. If you need to paint the new dashboard to match your vehicle's interior, be sure to use automotive-grade paint and primer for best results.
