1. Gather your materials.
You will need the following:
- A pry bar
- A hammer
- A utility knife
- Roofing nails
- A tube of roofing cement
- New shingles (the same type as the existing ones)
2. Remove the damaged shingle.
Use the pry bar to carefully pry up the damaged shingle. Be careful not to damage the surrounding shingles.
3. Inspect the underlying roof deck.
Check for any damage to the roof deck. If there is any damage, you will need to repair it before installing a new shingle.
4. Install the new shingle.
Place the new shingle over the damaged area. Make sure that the new shingle overlaps the existing shingles by at least 1 inch.
5. Nail the new shingle in place.
Use the hammer to nail the new shingle in place. Drive the nails through the shingle and into the roof deck.
6. Apply roofing cement.
Apply a bead of roofing cement around the edges of the new shingle. This will help to seal the shingle and prevent water from leaking through.
7. Let the roofing cement dry.
Allow the roofing cement to dry completely before moving on. This may take several hours or overnight, depending on the weather conditions.
Once the roofing cement is dry, your roof repair will be complete. The new shingle should blend in with the existing shingles and protect your roof from water damage.
