How do you change oil on a 1998 BMW Z3?

Tools and materials needed:

- New oil filter (BMW part number 11 42 1 735 516)

- New oil drain plug gasket (BMW part number 07 11 9 963 331)

- Oil drain pan

- Oil filter wrench

- Funnel

- New oil (BMW recommends Castrol Edge 5W-30)

Instructions:

1. Park the car on a level surface and turn off the engine.

2. Engage the parking brake.

3. Locate the oil drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan. It is a 17mm bolt.

4. Place the oil drain pan under the oil drain plug.

5. Use the wrench to loosen the oil drain plug and allow the oil to drain completely.

6. While the oil is draining, locate the oil filter housing. It is a cylindrical-shaped part on the top of the engine, near the back of the engine bay.

7. Use the oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter and remove it.

8. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.

9. Screw the new oil filter onto the oil filter housing until it is snug.

10. Replace the oil drain plug and tighten it until it is snug.

11. Use the funnel to add new oil to the engine. The oil capacity for the BMW Z3 is 6.5 liters.

12. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.

13. Check the oil level and add more oil if necessary.

14. Turn off the engine and check the oil drain plug and oil filter housing for leaks.
