Method 1: Disconnect and Reconnect the Battery
1. Turn off the engine.
2. Open the hood of your Neon.
3. Locate the negative battery terminal (usually marked with a minus symbol or black cap).
4. Use a wrench to loosen and disconnect the negative battery terminal cable by turning counterclockwise.
5. Wait for about 30 seconds.
6. Reconnect the negative battery terminal cable to the negative terminal by turning clockwise until it's secure.
7. Start your car.
Method 2: Use an OBD-II Scanner
1. Get an OBD-II scan tool, either an affordable handheld one or a smartphone app paired with a compatible Bluetooth adapter.
2. Turn off the engine and insert the OBD-II scanner into the vehicle's OBD port, which is usually located under the dashboard on the driver's side.
3. Turn on the ignition switch without starting the engine, so that the instrument panel lights up.
4. Follow the prompts on the OBD-II scanner to scan for trouble codes.
5. Select the option to reset or clear the trouble codes from the scanner's menu.
6. Confirm that you want to reset the codes and follow any additional instructions on the scanner.
7. Turn off the ignition switch.
8. Start the engine to verify that the check engine light has been reset.
Important Note: If the check engine light comes back on after resetting it, it's important to have it diagnosed by a professional mechanic to determine the underlying cause of the issue and address it accordingly.
