Disconnect battery.
1. Disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal. This will prevent any electrical accidents while you're working on the starter.
2. To do this, loosen the nut that holds the cable to the terminal using a 10 mm wrench. Then, slide the cable off of the terminal.
3. Set the cable aside in a safe place.
4. Remove oil filter cover.
5. Remove the three bolts that hold the oil filter cover to the engine using an 8 mm Allen wrench.
6. Lift the oil filter cover off of the engine and set it aside.
7. Remove starter.
Locate the starter on the left side of the engine.
8. It is a cylindrical shaped object with a solenoid attached to it.
9. Remove the two nuts that hold the starter to the engine using a 13 mm wrench.
10. Remove the starter from the engine.
Inspect Starter.
11. Inspect the starter for any damage or wear.
12. Look for any cracks in the housing, broken teeth on the gears, or any other visible signs of damage.
Replace Starter if necessary.
If the starter is damaged, you will need to replace it. To do this:
13. Purchase a new starter from a reputable dealer.
14. Install the new starter in reverse order of the steps above.
