- Loosen the Axle Nuts: Use a wrench to loosen the two axle nuts on the rear wheel. Do not remove the nuts entirely.
- Locate the Chain Adjusters: On your ATV, there will be two chain adjusters, one on each side of the swingarm. These adjusters have nuts that can be turned to adjust the chain tension.
- Loosen the Chain Adjuster Lock Nuts: Use a wrench to loosen the locknuts on both chain adjusters. These locknuts prevent the adjusters from moving once the chain is tightened.
- Turn the Chain Adjusters: Using a wrench, turn the chain adjusters counterclockwise to tighten the chain. Ensure that you turn both adjusters an equal amount to keep the chain aligned.
- Retighten the Locknuts: Once the chain is tightened to your desired tension, retighten the locknuts on the chain adjusters to secure them in place.
- Retighten Axle Nuts: Finally, retighten the axle nuts on the rear wheel. Make sure the nuts are snug but do not overtighten them.
After completing these steps, check the chain tension again and ensure it is within the recommended range specified in your ATV's owner's manual. Additionally, make sure the chain is properly aligned with the sprockets to prevent any issues during operation.
