Materials Needed:
- SYM Citycom scooter with oil change indicator light
- Socket wrench
- Oil filter wrench
- New oil filter (check your owner's manual for the correct size)
- New engine oil (check your owner's manual for the correct type and amount)
Step-by-step Guide:
1. Prepare the Scooter:
- Park the scooter on a level surface and turn off the engine.
- Allow the engine to cool down if it's recently been running.
- Engage the parking brake to prevent the scooter from rolling.
2. Locate the Oil Drain Plug:
- The oil drain plug is usually located at the bottom of the engine casing.
- It might be covered by a plastic or metal skid plate. Remove the skid plate if necessary.
3. Drain the Old Oil:
- Place an oil pan or container beneath the oil drain plug to catch the old oil.
- Use the socket wrench to loosen and remove the oil drain plug.
- Let all of the old oil drain out. This may take a few minutes.
4. Replace the Oil Drain Plug:
- Once the oil has drained completely, replace the oil drain plug.
- Tighten the plug securely using the socket wrench.
5. Locate the Oil Filter:
- The oil filter is usually cylindrical in shape and black or silver.
- It's often near the top of the engine or near the oil drain plug.
6. Remove the Old Oil Filter:
- Use the oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the old oil filter.
- Be careful not to spill any oil during this step.
7. Install the New Oil Filter:
- Check that the new oil filter has the correct gasket.
- Apply a thin layer of new engine oil to the gasket.
- Screw the new oil filter into place by hand until it's snug.
- Use the oil filter wrench to tighten the oil filter, but do not over-tighten it.
8. Add New Engine Oil:
- Remove the oil filler cap, which is usually located near the top of the engine.
- Use a funnel to add the recommended amount of new engine oil to the scooter.
- Refer to your owner's manual for the exact amount of oil required.
9. Check the Oil Level:
- Use the dipstick (if your scooter has one) or the sight glass to check the oil level.
- Ensure the oil level is between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick or sight glass.
10. Reset the Oil Light:
- Turn on the scooter's ignition but don't start the engine.
- Press and hold the "SET" button on the dashboard.
- While holding the "SET" button, press and hold the "MODE" button.
- Keep both buttons held for a few seconds until the oil light turns off.
11. Start the Engine:
- Start the scooter's engine and let it run for a few minutes.
- Check for any oil leaks around the oil drain plug or oil filter.
12. Verify the Oil Light:
- The oil light should remain off after resetting it and starting the engine.
- If the light turns on again, there may be an underlying issue that requires attention.
Note:
- If the oil light persists after resetting or if you encounter any issues during the process, consult your scooter's owner's manual or a professional mechanic for further guidance.
