How do you replace cam sensor on BMW 528i 1997?

Tools

* 10 mm socket

* Ratchet

* Pry bar

* Flat head screwdriver

* Flashlight

Instructions

1. Park your vehicle in a safe location and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely before starting any work.

2. Open the hood of your vehicle.

3. Locate the camshaft position sensor. It is located on the front of the engine, near the top of the cylinder head. It is a black plastic sensor with a single electrical connector.

4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the camshaft position sensor.

5. Use a 10 mm socket and ratchet to remove the two bolts that hold the camshaft position sensor in place.

6. Gently pry the camshaft position sensor out of the cylinder head using a pry bar. Be careful not to damage the sensor or the surrounding area.

7. Inspect the camshaft position sensor for any damage. If the sensor is damaged, it must be replaced.

8. If the sensor is not damaged, apply a small amount of clean motor oil to the new sensor's sealing surface.

9. Place the new sensor into the cylinder head and secure it with the two bolts.

10. Reconnect the electrical connector to the camshaft position sensor.

11. Close the hood of your vehicle and start the engine. Check for any leaks or unusual noises.
