- Socket wrench set
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Brake cleaner
- New brake pads
- Brake caliper grease
- C-clamp
- Wire brush
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Park your vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Jack up your vehicle and secure it with the jack stands. Place a jack under the front subframe, just behind the front wheels. Use a jack stand to support the vehicle at this point.
3. Remove the wheels. Use a lug wrench to loosen and remove the lug nuts, then pull the wheels off.
4. Remove the brake caliper bolts. Use a socket wrench to loosen and remove the two bolts that hold the brake caliper in place.
5. Remove the brake caliper. Once the bolts are removed, you can lift the brake caliper off the brake rotor. Be careful not to let the caliper hang by the brake hose.
6. Inspect the brake rotor. The brake rotor should be smooth and free of cracks or grooves. If the rotor is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
7. Clean the brake caliper and rotor. Use brake cleaner to remove any dirt or debris from the brake caliper and rotor.
8. Apply brake grease to the caliper slide pins. This will help the caliper to move smoothly when you apply the brakes.
9. Install the new brake pads. Insert the new brake pads into the caliper and make sure they are seated correctly.
10. Reinstall the brake caliper. Place the brake caliper back over the brake rotor and insert the bolts. Tighten the bolts until they are snug.
11. Reinstall the wheels. Put the wheels back on and tighten the lug nuts until they are snug.
12. Lower your vehicle. Use the jack and jack stands to lower your vehicle back down to the ground.
13. Test the brakes. Test the brakes by applying them gently several times. The brakes should feel firm and responsive.
