Replace a rear shock on 2001 Volvo s60?

Tools You'll Need:

- Jack and jack stands

- Socket set

- Wrench set

- Allen wrench set

- Shock compressor (optional)

- Safety glasses

- Gloves

Instructions

1. Park your car on a flat surface and apply the parking brake.

2. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheel.

3. Jack up the rear of the car and place the jack stands underneath the frame.

4. Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.

5. Locate the shock absorber at the top of the wheel well. It's the cylindrical-shaped component that connects the suspension to the frame.

6. Use a socket wrench to loosen the upper mounting bolts of the shock absorber. There will be two or three bolts, depending on the model of your Volvo.

7. Use an Allen wrench to remove the lower mounting bolts of the shock absorber. Again, there will be two or three bolts.

*Note: Removing these bolts may cause the rear suspension components to drop slightly, as they are controlled by the shock absorber. Be aware of this and proceed with caution to avoid being startled.*

8. Use a shock compressor to compress the shock absorber if needed. This will make it easier to remove and install.

9. Pull the shock absorber out of the wheel well.

10. Take the new shock absorber and insert it into the wheel well.

11. Use an Allen wrench to install the lower mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts securely.

12. Use a socket wrench to install the upper mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts securely.

13. Reinstall the wheel and tighten the lug nuts.

14. Lower the car off the jack stands and remove the jack.

15. Drive the car for a few miles to test the new shock absorber.
