Tools and Materials Needed
- Oil filter wrench
- New oil filter (Volvo part number 30795437 or equivalent)
- Oil drain pan
- Funnel
- New oil (5W-30 synthetic oil is recommended)
- Rags
Instructions
1. Prepare your vehicle.
- Park your vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
- Allow the engine to cool down if it has been running.
Engage the parking brake.
- Raise the vehicle using a jack and jack stands or ramps.
2. Locate the oil filter.
- On the 2001 Volvo XC70, the oil filter is located on the top of the engine near the front of the vehicle.
- It is a cylindrical-shaped object with a black cap.
3. Remove the oil filter.
- Place the oil drain pan under the oil filter.
- Use the oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter.
- Be careful not to spill any oil.
- Once the oil filter is loose, remove it by hand.
4. Install the new oil filter.
- Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
- Screw the new oil filter onto the oil filter housing until it is snug.
- Do not over-tighten the oil filter.
5. Add new oil.
- Use the funnel to add new oil to the engine.
- Add the amount of oil specified in your owner's manual.
- Check the oil level with the dipstick and add more oil as needed.
6. Lower the vehicle.
- Carefully lower the vehicle from the jack stands or ramps.
7. Start the engine.
- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
- Check for any leaks around the oil filter.
- If there are no leaks, turn off the engine.
8. Check the oil level.
- Use the dipstick to check the oil level.
- Add more oil as needed.
Your oil change is now complete.
