How do you replace the automatic transmission shift knob on a 1980 450 SL?

1. Park the vehicle. Engage the parking brake.

2. Locate the shift knob release button. It is usually located on the side of the shift knob.

3. Press the release button and lift up the shift knob.

4. Unscrew the shift knob from the shift lever.

5. Apply a small amount of grease to the threads of the shift knob.

6. Screw the shift knob back into the shift lever.

7. Tighten the shift knob until it is snug.

8. Replace the shift knob cap.
