When should brake pads be replaced?

There are a few signs that indicate your brake pads need to be replaced:

1. Squeaking or squealing noises when you brake: This is the most common sign that your brake pads are wearing thin and need to be replaced. The noise is caused by a metal indicator on the brake pad that rubs against the rotor when the pad gets too thin.

2. Grinding or scraping noises when you brake: This is another sign that your brake pads are severely worn and need to be replaced immediately. The grinding noise is caused by the metal backing of the brake pad rubbing against the rotor.

3. A decrease in braking performance: If you notice that your car is not slowing down as quickly or as smoothly as it used to, it may be a sign that your brake pads are worn and need to be replaced.

4. A spongy or soft brake pedal: If your brake pedal feels spongy or soft when you press it, it may be a sign that there is air in the brake lines or that the brake pads are worn and need to be replaced.

5. Visible wear on the brake pads: If you can see that the brake pads are worn down to the metal backing, they need to be replaced immediately.

It's important to have your brake pads inspected by a qualified mechanic if you experience any of these signs. Brake pads should be replaced as soon as possible to avoid damage to the brake rotors and other brake components.
