Replacing the AC heater fan motor in a 1997 Honda CR-V requires removing several components, including the glovebox, dashboard, and center console. It is a time-consuming process, but it is not overly difficult.
Here is a general guide to the steps involved:
1. Disconnect the battery. This is always the first step when working on any electrical components in your car.
2. Remove the glovebox. There are two screws located on either side of the glovebox. Remove these screws and then gently pry the glovebox open.
3. Remove the dashboard. There are four screws located under the dashboard, two on each side. Remove these screws and then gently pry the dashboard loose.
4. Remove the center console. There are four screws located on either side of the center console. Remove these screws and then gently pry the center console loose.
5. Locate the AC heater fan motor. The AC heater fan motor is located behind the center console. It is a black plastic housing with a wire harness attached to it.
6. Disconnect the wire harness. There are two connectors on the wire harness that connect to the AC heater fan motor. Disconnect these connectors.
7. Remove the AC heater fan motor. There are four screws that hold the AC heater fan motor in place. Remove these screws and then pull the fan motor out of its housing.
8. Install the new AC heater fan motor. Insert the new AC heater fan motor into its housing and secure it with the four screws.
9. Reconnect the wire harness. Connect the two connectors on the wire harness to the AC heater fan motor.
10. Reinstall the center console, dashboard, and glovebox. Reverse the steps that you took to remove these components.
11. Reconnect the battery. This is the last step, and it is just as important as the first.
Once you have completed these steps, the new AC heater fan motor should be installed and functioning properly.
