Park the lawn mower on a level surface and turn off the engine. Engage the parking brake.
Locate the drive belt. The drive belt is located under the mower deck, between the engine and the transmission.
Remove the belt tension lever. The belt tension lever is located on the side of the transmission. Pull the lever up to release the tension on the drive belt.
Remove the drive belt. Once the tension is released, you can remove the drive belt by sliding it off the pulleys.
Install the new drive belt. To install the new drive belt, simply slide it onto the pulleys in the opposite direction of how you removed the old belt.
Reattach the belt tension lever. Once the new drive belt is in place, reattach the belt tension lever. Pull the lever up to apply tension to the drive belt.
Start the lawn mower and check the drive belt. Start the lawn mower and check to make sure that the drive belt is properly tensioned. The belt should be snug, but not too tight. If the belt is too loose, it will slip and not move the lawn mower forward. If the belt is too tight, it will put unnecessary strain on the engine and transmission.
Adjust the drive belt tension. If necessary, you can adjust the drive belt tension by turning the belt tension adjustment knob. The belt tension adjustment knob is located on the side of the transmission. Turn the knob clockwise to increase the tension and counterclockwise to decrease the tension.
