How do you replace rear cv axles on Kubota rtv 1140?

Replacing the rear CV axles on a Kubota RTV 1140 involves the following steps:

Preparations:

Gather the necessary tools, including a socket set, wrenches, a pry bar, and a replacement CV axle.

Elevate and secure the vehicle. You can use ramps and a chock or engage the parking brake.

1. Remove the rear wheels:

Using a socket wrench, loosen and remove the lug nuts holding the rear wheels.

Lift and remove the wheels.

2. Disconnect the brake caliper:

Locate the brake caliper on the rear hub assembly.

Unbolt and remove the caliper, taking care not to lose any washers or parts.

Suspend the caliper out of the way using a zip tie or wire, being cautious not to damage the brake line.

3. Remove the hub and bearings:

Using a pry bar, gently pry the dust cover off the rear hub.

Remove the cotter pin and loosen the castle nut on the hub.

Remove the nut and washer, then use the pry bar to pry off the hub.

Extract the bearings from the hub assembly and set them aside for reinstallation later.

4. Remove the CV axle driveshaft:

Locate the CV axle driveshaft, which connects the differential to the hub assembly.

Unbolt and remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the hub.

Slide the driveshaft out from the hub assembly.

5. Remove the old CV axle:

Locate the old CV axle inside the hub assembly.

Use a pry bar to pry the CV axle out of its housing, taking care not to damage the axle housing itself.

6. Install the new CV axle:

Insert the new CV axle into the hub assembly, aligning the splines with the differential.

Gently tap the CV axle into place using a rubber mallet or a block of wood.

7. Reinstall the driveshaft:

Align the driveshaft splines with those on the differential and slide the driveshaft into position.

Secure the driveshaft to the hub using the removed bolts.

8. Reinstall the bearings and hub assembly:

Lubricate and place the bearings back into the hub assembly.

Replace the washer and castle nut onto the hub shaft, then tighten the nut until the hub can spin freely without noticeable looseness or binding.

Install a new cotter pin to secure the castle nut.

9. Reinstall the brake caliper:

Remount the brake caliper onto the hub, ensuring the brake rotor and caliper are properly aligned.

Secure the brake caliper using the previously removed bolts and washers.

10. Reinstall the wheels:

Place the wheels back onto the hub assembly and reinstall the lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts securely in a star pattern.

11. Test the repair:

Lower the vehicle from the ramps or chocks.

Test-drive the vehicle to confirm proper operation and ensure that there are no unusual vibrations or noises.

Remember to follow all safety precautions and refer to the Kubota RTV 1140 service manual for specific instructions and torque specifications. If you are unsure about any step, it is recommended to consult a qualified mechanic.
