1. Disconnect the battery.
Start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal. Disconnect the positive terminal next.
2. Remove the air filter.
The air filter is located in the engine bay, near the throttle body. Simply unclip the air filter housing and lift the air filter out.
3. Drain the oil
Place the oil drain pan under the oil drain plug. Loosen the plug with the 17mm wrench and let the oil drain into the pan. When the oil is completely drained, replace the drain plug.
4. Remove the transmission.
Loosen the transmission fluid pan bolts and allow the fluid to drain. Remove the transmission fluid pan. Locate the transmission bell housing bolts and loosen them. Support the transmission with a floor jack and remove the transmission mount bolts. Lower the transmission and slide it out from under the car.
5. Remove the old flywheel.
Locate the flywheel bolts and loosen them. Remove the flywheel bolts and lift the flywheel off of the crankshaft.
6. Clean the crankshaft.
Clean the crankshaft with a rag to remove any dirt or debris.
7. Apply a thin coat of Locktite 242 thread locker to the new flywheel bolts.
8. Install the new flywheel.
Place the new flywheel on the crankshaft. Be sure to align the flywheel dowel pins with the holes in the crankshaft. Slide the flywheel all the way onto the crankshaft.
9. Start the flywheel bolts and tighten them to 55 ft-lb in a crisscross pattern.
10. Reinstall the transmission.
Lift the transmission into place. Be sure to align the transmission input shaft with the pilot hole in the flywheel. Raise the transmission and install the transmission mount bolts. Tighten the transmission mount bolts. Install the transmission fluid pan and tighten the bolts. Add transmission fluid to the proper level.
11. Reconnect the battery.
Reconnect the positive battery terminal. Reconnect the negative terminal next.
12. Start the engine and check for leaks.
Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for leaks around the oil drain plug and the transmission fluid pan. If there are any leaks, tighten the bolts until the leak stops.
13. Fill with oil.
Add the oil and filter. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for leaks around the oil filter and drain plug.
