1. Gather Proper Tools:
- Floor Jack & Jack Stands
- 17mm hex/Allen key
- Wheel chock or parking break to prevent car from rolling
- Lug wrench to remove wheel lug nuts
- C-clamp or caliper wind-back tool
- Safety goggles and gloves
2. Prepare the Car:
- Engage parking break.
- Chock the front wheels.
- Jack up your car at a designated jacking point.
- Securely place the car on jack stands.
3. Remove the Wheel:
- Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheel you're working on, but don't remove them completely yet.
- Jack the car up until the tire is off the ground.
- Remove lug nuts and take off the wheel.
4. Access the Caliper:
- Locate the brake caliper behind the wheel.
5. Remove caliper:
- Remove the bolts holding the caliper to its mounting bracket.
- Check for any signs of uneven or excessive wear on the brake pads and rotors.
- Use a C-clamp (or similar tool) to slowly depress the caliper piston towards the caliper body to make more room for removal.
- Lift off the caliper and place it aside; be cautious not to strain the brake line.
6. Remove the brake disc:
- Use the 17mm hex key to turn and remove the retaining hex bolt on the rear of the disc (or any bolts that hold the rotor to the hub).
- Once free, slide off the brake disc.
7. Clean and Inspect:
- Inspect the disc for grooves or excessive wear.
- Also check the hub and caliper assembly for any issues.
- Clean both surfaces with brake cleaner and/or wire brush (if needed).
8. Reinstall:
- Slide the new or cleaned disc back in place.
- Install the retaining bolt onto the disc and tighten it securely.
- Reattach the caliper and insert the mounting bolts, tightening securely.
- Replace the wheel and lug nuts but do not tighten fully.
- Lower the car but leave it jacked up off the ground.
- Lightly press the brake pedal a few times to seat the pads and pistons properly.
- Tighten the lug nuts further while the car is still jacked up.
- Lower the car gently to the ground.
- Tighten the lug nuts one last time.
9. Test Brakes:
- Test drive gently and carefully. Apply the brakes firmly to check that everything functions as expected.
