Tools
- Spark Plug Wrench
- Gap Gauge
- Small Flat Head Screwdriver
- 10mm Socket and Wrench
Instructions:
__Step 1: Turn Off Your DS80__
Make sure your DS80 engine is completely off and cool before you begin.
Step 2: Locate Spark Plug
Locate the spark plug on the DS80 engine head. It will have a wire or coil connected to it.
Step 3: Remove Spark Plug
Use a spark plug wrench to loosen and remove the spark plug from the cylinder head.
Step 4: Check Gap
Use a feeler gauge to check the spark plug gap. It should be set to 0.020 - 0.030 inches (0.5 - 0.75 mm). If it is not, carefully bend the electrode on the side of the spark plug until the correct gap is achieved.
Step 5: Locate Ignition Timing Screw
On the left side of the cylinder head, you will find a small silver screw with a black cap. This is the ignition timing screw.
Step 6: Adjust Ignition Timing
Use a small flat head screwdriver to loosen (turn counterclockwise) or tighten (turn clockwise) the ignition timing screw until your crankshaft’s “T” mark (or top dead center mark) aligns with the “O” mark on your engine casing. Do this while slowly kicking over your engine’s kick-start lever with your right hand.
Step 7: Insert Spark Plug
Once the timing is aligned correctly, place the spark plug back into the cylinder head and carefully thread the spark plug in by hand until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.
Step 8: Tighten Spark Plug
Use a spark plug wrench to fully tighten the spark plug.
Step 9: Start Engine and Test Timing
Start the engine and see how it runs. If the engine is running smoothly, then your ignition timing is correctly set. If it is not, then repeat the previous steps until you get the correct timing.
