1. Gather your tools. You will need:
* A socket set
* A ratchet
* A torque wrench
* A Feeler gauge
* A rag
* Safety glasses
2. Prepare the engine.
* Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
* Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
* Remove the valve cover.
3. Locate the valves.
* The valves are located on the cylinder head. They are arranged in two rows, with four valves per row.
4. Measure the valve clearance.
* Insert the feeler gauge between the valve stem and the rocker arm.
* The feeler gauge should slide between the valve stem and the rocker arm with a slight drag.
* If the feeler gauge does not fit, the valve clearance is too tight and needs to be adjusted.
5. Adjust the valve clearance.
* Use the socket and ratchet to loosen the lock nut on the rocker arm.
* Turn the adjusting screw on the rocker arm until the feeler gauge fits snugly between the valve stem and the rocker arm.
* Tighten the lock nut.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the remaining valves.
7. Reinstall the valve cover.
8. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
9. Start the engine and check the valve clearance.
* Use the feeler gauge to check the valve clearance again.
* The feeler gauge should slide between the valve stem and the rocker arm with a slight drag.
* If the feeler gauge does not fit, the valve clearance is not adjusted correctly and needs to be adjusted again.
