- Flathead screwdriver
- Socket set
- Pliers
- A jack and jack stands
- A new alternator
Procedure
1. Disconnect the battery. This will prevent any electrical shocks from occurring while you are working on the alternator.
2. Remove the air cleaner duct. This is located on the passenger side of the engine. There are several bolts holding it in place, so use your socket set to remove them.
3. Remove the serpentine belt. This is the belt that goes around the alternator and other accessories. There are two bolts holding it in place, so use your socket set to remove them.
4. Loosen the alternator bolts. There are two bolts holding the alternator in place, so use your socket set to loosen them. Don't remove the bolts completely yet.
5. Remove the upper alternator mount. This is the bracket that holds the alternator in place at the top. Use your socket set to remove the bolts that hold it in place.
6. Remove the lower alternator mount. This is the bracket that holds the alternator in place at the bottom. Use your socket set to remove the bolts that hold it in place.
7. Remove the alternator. Now that all of the bolts are removed, you can remove the alternator from the engine. Be careful not to drop it.
8. Install the new alternator. Place the new alternator in the engine and reverse the steps you took to remove the old alternator.
9. Tighten the alternator bolts. Tighten the bolts that hold the alternator in place.
10. Install the serpentine belt. Install the serpentine belt and tighten the bolts holding it in place.
11. Install the air cleaner duct. Install the air cleaner duct and bolts that hold it in place.
12. Reconnect the battery. Reconnect the battery and start the engine. Make sure that the alternator is charging properly.
