Tools and Materials Needed
* New lifters and pushrods
* Oil filter wrench
* Oil drain pan
* New oil and oil filter
* 5/8-inch socket and ratchet
* 9/16-inch socket and ratchet
* 1/2-inch socket and ratchet
* Torque wrench
* Pry bar
* Flathead screwdriver
* Needle-nose pliers
1. Park your vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. This will prevent the engine from starting while you are working on it.
1. Drain the oil from the engine. Place an oil drain pan under the oil pan drain plug and remove the plug using an oil filter wrench. Allow the oil to drain completely.
1. Remove the oil filter. Unscrew the oil filter using an oil filter wrench.
1. Remove the intake manifold. This will give you access to the lifters and pushrods. The intake manifold is held in place by several bolts and nuts. Use a 5/8-inch socket and ratchet to remove the bolts and nuts.
1. Remove the rocker arm covers. The rocker arm covers are located on top of the cylinder heads. They are held in place by several bolts. Use a 9/16-inch socket and ratchet to remove the bolts.
1. Remove the lifters and pushrods. Use a pry bar and a flathead screwdriver to remove the lifters. Use needle-nose pliers to remove the pushrods.
1. Install the new lifters and pushrods. Press the new lifters into place using your fingers or a lifter tool. Install the new pushrods by hand.
1. Reinstall the rocker arm covers. Replace the bolts and tighten them until they are snug.
1. Reinstall the intake manifold. Replace the bolts and nuts and tighten them until they are snug.
1. Add new oil to the engine. Use a funnel to add new oil to the engine. Add the amount of oil specified in your vehicle's owner's manual.
1. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
1. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks.
That's it! You have now successfully replaced the lifters and pushrods on your Chevy Vortec 350.
