Parts Needed:
- New timing chain (if necessary)

Procedure:
1. Prep: Position your Honda XL 350 on a center stand or secure it firmly in place. Allow the engine to cool down if it's been running to prevent burns.
2. Remove Front Cover: Use a 12mm socket wrench to remove the four bolts holding the front cover in place. Gently pry the cover off and set it aside.
3. Turn Crankshaft: Locate the crankshaft. Use the 17mm socket wrench to turn the crankshaft counterclockwise until the "T" mark on the rotor aligns with the index pointer on the engine case. This positions the piston in the correct position.
4. Check Cam Chain: Inspect the cam chain. Look for any signs of wear, deformation, or damage. Replace it if necessary.
5. Loosen Cam Chain Tensioner Bolt: Use the 8mm socket wrench to loosen the bolt located at the top of the cylinder head, opposite the cam chain. This is the cam chain tensioner bolt.
6. Adjust Tension: Gently push down on the tensioner with your finger to release any excess tension. While holding it down, re-tighten the tensioner bolt to secure it in place.
7. Re-check Alignment: Once you've adjusted the tension, recheck that the "T" mark on the rotor still aligns with the index pointer on the engine case. If not, slightly adjust the tension again.
8. Replace Cover: Carefully place the front cover back onto the engine, ensuring that the gasket is properly seated. Secure it using the four 12mm bolts removed earlier. Tighten the bolts securely but not excessively.
9. Refill Engine Oil: Drain and replace the engine oil according to the recommended interval in your owner's manual. This step ensures that the engine has sufficient lubrication when you restart it.
10. Start and Test: Start your Honda XL 350. Listen for any unusual noises or any signs of improper timing. If everything sounds normal and the bike operates smoothly, you've successfully adjusted the timing chain.
