How do you change upper ball joint in 1995 Nissan pickup?

Tools Needed:

-19mm wrench

-Breaker bar

-Extension

-Jack

-Jack stands

-Ball joint separator

-Vice grips

-Hammer

-Punch

-Safety glasses

-Gloves

Instructions

  1. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel with a 19mm wrench. Do not remove the lug nuts completely.

  2. Jack up the truck and secure it with the jack stands. Make sure the truck is parked on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged.

  3. Remove the lug nuts and take the wheel off.

  4. Locate the upper ball joint. It is located on the upper control arm and is connected to the steering knuckle with two bolts.

  5. Remove the cotter pin from the castle nut on the upper ball joint.

  6. Loosen the castle nut with a 19mm wrench, but do not remove it completely.

  7. Separate the ball joint from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator. Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot.

  8. Remove the two bolts connecting the upper ball joint to the upper control arm.

  9. Remove the old upper ball joint from the upper control arm.

  10. Install the new upper ball joint into the upper control arm. Make sure the new ball joint is facing the correct way.

  11. Replace the two bolts connecting the upper ball joint to the upper control arm. Tighten the bolts until they are snug.

  12. Reattach the ball joint to the steering knuckle using the ball joint separator. Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot.

  13. Tighten the castle nut tightly.

  14. Replace the cotter pin in the castle nut.

  15. Reinstall the wheel and lug nuts . Tighten the lug nuts until they are snug.

  16. Lower the truck and remove the jack stands.
