1. Check the Ignition Key: Examine your vehicle's key and ensure it has the embedded resistor pellet intact. If the resistor is missing, damaged, or tampered with, it can cause anti-theft system issues.
2. Remove the Ignition Key: Turn the ignition to the "ON" position and leave it there. Then, remove the key from the ignition switch and leave it out.
3. Wait for the Security Light: After removing the key, watch for the security light on your dashboard. It might blink for about 10 minutes. This is normal as the VATS system is in learning mode.
4. Reinsert the Key: After the security light has stopped blinking, insert the key back into the ignition switch. Make sure the key is fully inserted.
5. Start the Vehicle: Turn the key to the "Start" position and attempt to start the vehicle. If the security light turns off and the vehicle cranks, the VATS system has successfully relearned the resistor code in your key.
If the security light remains on or the vehicle still doesn't start, there may be an underlying problem with the VATS system or its components. In this case, it is recommended to consult with a qualified automotive technician or a Chevrolet dealer for further diagnosis and repair.
