2. Locate the shift knob release button.
- The release button is usually located on the side of the shift knob or underneath it. On the 1996 Impala SS, the release button is located on the side of the shift knob, just below the knob itself.
3. Press and hold the release button while pulling up on the shift knob.
- The shift knob should come off easily. If it does not, you may need to use a little force.
4. Remove the shift knob from the shifter shaft.
- Once the shift knob is off, you can remove it from the shifter shaft. Be careful not to lose the spring and washer that are located underneath the shift knob.
5. Install the new shift knob.
- To install the new shift knob, simply reverse the steps above. Make sure the shift knob is securely fastened before driving your car.
