1. Disconnect the Battery:
- Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent any electrical accidents during the process.
2. Remove Steering Column Covers:
- Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry open the plastic cover around the steering column.
- Remove the screws holding the top and bottom steering column covers in place.
- Carefully remove the upper and lower covers to expose the ignition switch.
3. Remove Ignition Lock Cylinder:
- Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position.
- Use a small screwdriver to press the release button located on the side of the ignition switch.
- Pull the ignition lock cylinder out of the switch.
4. Disconnect Electrical Connectors:
- Disconnect the electrical connectors attached to the ignition switch. Note the positions of each connector for reinstallation.
5. Remove Ignition Switch:
- Remove the bolts or screws holding the ignition switch in place.
- Carefully remove the ignition switch from the housing.
6. Install New Ignition Switch:
- Check the alignment of the new ignition switch with the steering column.
- Place the new ignition switch into the housing and secure it with the bolts or screws.
7. Reconnect Electrical Connectors:
- Reconnect the electrical connectors to the new ignition switch. Make sure they are securely plugged in.
8. Install Ignition Lock Cylinder:
- Insert the ignition lock cylinder into the new ignition switch.
- Turn the key to the "ON" position and press the release button to ensure proper engagement.
9. Replace Steering Column Covers:
- Reinstall the upper and lower steering column covers.
- Secure the covers with the screws you removed earlier.
10. Test the Ignition Switch:
- Connect the battery negative terminal.
- Insert the key and turn the ignition to the "ON" position.
- Check if the vehicle starts and the accessories work properly.
11. Reattach Battery:
- Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery if it was disconnected.
12. Test Drive:
- Take the vehicle for a short test drive to ensure everything is working correctly.
