How do you replace linkage on drivers side windshield wiper 2001 ford explorer

Step 1: Tools and materials

* Replacement windshield wiper linkage

* 10mm socket wrench

* Pliers

* Flat head screwdriver

* New wiper blades

Step 2: Remove the old wiper blades

1. Lift the wiper arm off of the windshield.

2. Press down on the release tab and pull the wiper blade off of the wiper arm.

3. Repeat for the other wiper blade.

Step 3: Remove the old linkage

1. Locate the linkage assembly that runs along the bottom edge of the windshield, where the wipers motor is located.

2. Using the 10mm socket wrench, remove the bolts holding the linkage in place.

3. Carefully pry the linkage off the motor shaft using a flat head screwdriver.

Step 4: Install the new linkage

1. Line up the splined shaft of the new linkage to the motor shaft and gently push until they are flush.

2. Reattach the linkage to the motor shaft with the bolts and 10mm socket wrench you removed earlier.

3. Be sure to tighten the bolts securely with the 10mm socket wrench once installed.

Step 5: Test the new linkage

1. Turn the ignition on and activate the windshield wipers.

2. The new linkage should work smoothly without any binding or skipping.

Step 6: Install the new wiper blades

1. Slide the new wiper blades onto the wiper arms.

2. Press down on the release tabs and snap the wiper blades into place.

3. Repeat for the other wiper blade.

4. Lower the wiper arms back down onto the windshield and ensure that they rest in a flat, uniform position.
