How do you change brake pads in 97 Dodge Dakota?

Changing the Brake Pads on a 1997 Dodge Dakota

Tools Needed:

- Jack and jack stands

- Wrench set

- Pliers

- Screwdriver

- C-clamp

- Brake cleaner

Instructions:

1. Park your truck on a level surface and set the parking brake.

2. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheels that you will be working on.

3. Jack up the truck and place jack stands under the frame.

4. Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheels.

5. Remove the brake caliper by unbolting the two bolts that hold it in place.

6. Use a C-clamp to compress the brake caliper piston.

7. Remove the old brake pads from the caliper.

8. Clean the caliper with brake cleaner.

9. Apply a thin coat of brake grease to the back of the new brake pads.

10. Install the new brake pads into the caliper.

11. Reinstall the brake caliper and bolt it in place.

12. Repeat steps 5-11 for the other wheel.

13. Reinstall the wheels and lug nuts.

14. Lower the truck off the jack stands.

15. Pump the brake pedal several times to build pressure in the brake system.

16. Test the brakes by driving the truck slowly and applying the brakes firmly.

Tips:

- Be careful not to damage the brake lines when you are working on the brakes.

- Brake pads can be dirty and dusty, so wear gloves and eye protection.

- If you are not comfortable changing your own brake pads, you can have a mechanic do it for you.
