How do you change a rear main seal on 1995 Isuzu Trooper?

Here are the steps on how to change a rear main seal on a 1995 Isuzu Trooper.

Tools and Materials Needed

- 10mm socket

- 12mm socket

- 14mm socket

- 17mm socket

- 22mm socket

- 1/2 inch ratchet

- 1/2 inch breaker bar

- Pry bar

- Mallet

- Sealant

- Extension bars

- Rear main seal

Instructions

1\. Park the vehicle on level ground and engage the parking brake.

2\. Crawl underneath the vehicle and locate the rear main seal.

3\. Use the 10mm socket to remove the bolts holding the transmission mounting bracket to the engine block.

4\. Use the 12mm socket to remove the nuts holding the transmission mount to the cross member.

5\. Use the 14mm socket to remove the bolts holding the starter to the engine block.

6\. Pull the starter out of the way and rest it on the transmission.

7\. Use the 17mm socket to remove the bolts holding the oil pan to the engine block.

8\. Use a pry bar to carefully pry the oil pan loose from the engine block.

Be careful not to damage the oil pan gasket.

9\. Lift the oil pan out of the way and set it aside.

10\. You will now see a circular piece of metal with six holes in it.

This is the rear main seal housing.

11\. Use the 22mm socket to remove the bolts holding the rear main seal housing in place.

12\. Pry the rear main seal housing loose from the engine block using a pry bar and hammer.

Be careful not to damage the engine block.

13\. Remove the old rear main seal from the housing.

14\. Apply sealant to the new rear main seal and then press it into the housing.

15\. Replace the rear main seal housing and secure with the bolts.

16\. Replace the oil pan gasket and oil pan.

17\. Replace the starter.

18\. Replace the transmission mount.

19\. Reconnect the transmission mounting bracket.

20\. Lower the vehicle and refill the oil.
