- A new rear main seal
- An oil pan gasket
- A RTV silicone sealant
- A socket set
- A ratchet
- A torque wrench
- A pry bar
- A hammer
1. Remove the oil pan.
- First, raise the vehicle and support it with jack stands.
- Then, remove the oil drain plug and drain the oil from the engine.
- Next, remove the bolts that hold the oil pan in place and carefully remove the oil pan.
2. Remove the old rear main seal.
- Use a pry bar to pry the old rear main seal out of its housing.
- Be careful not to damage the crankshaft or the seal surface.
3. Prepare the new rear main seal.
- Apply a thin layer of RTV silicone sealant to the new rear main seal.
- Make sure that the sealant is evenly distributed.
4. Install the new rear main seal.
- Carefully place the new rear main seal into its housing.
- Press the seal into place until it is seated firmly.
5. Install the oil pan.
- Apply a thin layer of RTV silicone sealant to the oil pan gasket.
- Make sure that the sealant is evenly distributed.
- Reinstall the oil pan and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
6. Add oil to the engine.
- Add the recommended amount of oil to the engine.
7. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
- This will allow the sealant to set.
8. Check for leaks.
- Look for any leaks around the rear main seal.
- If you see any leaks, tighten the oil pan bolts a little more.
