1. Disconnect the battery. This is an important safety precaution to take before working on any electrical components. To disconnect the battery, locate the negative terminal (usually marked with a "-" sign) and loosen the nut or bolt that holds the cable in place. Remove the cable from the terminal and set it aside.
2. Remove the ignition switch bezel. The ignition switch bezel is the plastic trim piece that surrounds the ignition switch. To remove the bezel, pry it out gently with a flat-head screwdriver or trim removal tool. Be careful not to damage the bezel or the surrounding trim.
3. Remove the ignition switch. Once the bezel is removed, you will see the ignition switch. The ignition switch is held in place by two screws. Remove the screws and pull the ignition switch out of the dash.
4. Disconnect the electrical connectors. There are three electrical connectors that connect to the ignition switch. Disconnect the connectors by pressing down on the release tabs and pulling the connectors straight off of the switch.
5. Install the new ignition switch. Insert the new ignition switch into the dash and secure it with the two screws. Reconnect the electrical connectors.
6. Reinstall the ignition switch bezel. Snap the ignition switch bezel back into place.
7. Reconnect the battery. Connect the negative battery cable to the negative terminal and tighten the nut or bolt.
8. Test the ignition switch. Turn the key in the ignition switch and make sure that the engine starts and runs properly.
